The Camp

This Is Not A Plug-N-Play

VIP is a community-driven theme camp on the Esplanade — beachfront property, baby. Built by Burners, for Burners. We're a family of builders, artists, bartenders, problem-solvers, and lovable degenerates who work hard, laugh harder, and gift Black Rock City one of the rowdiest lounges on the playa. We provide serious infrastructure. You provide serious participation. That's the deal.

Proof of Life

The Vibe

What We Ask

The Family Code

💪 Show up. One 3-hour bar shift, minimum. Help with Build or Strike if you can — early arrival passes go to the workers.

🎨 Contribute your art. Host an event, play a set, cook a feast, build a thing, teach a skill. Everyone adds something.

🤝 Consent is non-negotiable. If it's not a “F*ck yeah!”, it's a no. IDs checked every bar shift, no exceptions.

👀 We take care of each other. See something, say something. Keep the private stuff private. Keep the energy high.

The Questions

Just five. Voice memo or video. Five minutes or less, total. No essays, no ghostwriters — press record and be gloriously yourself. This is how we find our people. 💛

Hey, who are you?!

Name, playa name (if the dust has christened you yet), where you're from, and your burn count — virgins very welcome. Then the good part: what would your best friend say makes you unmistakably you?

The 3pm Dust Storm Test

It's 104°, the whiteout is rolling in, and the shade structure needs twenty more minutes of hands. Where are you? (No wrong answers. Okay… there's one wrong answer.)

What's your magic?

Music, welding, cooking for a small army, glitter logistics, sunrise philosophy, world-class hugs — whatever you create, we want it in the family. What would you love to share or gift through camp VIP?

Your role in the family

It's day three and camp is humming. Who are you in the ecosystem — the coffee wizard, the fixer with the zip ties, the hype squad, the quiet builder? Tell us about a time you really showed up for your people.

Your Very Inappropriate credential

Your best (legal, consent-forward) story or secret talent that proves you belong with the Very Inappropriate People. Bonus points if we laugh out loud.

🎬 Outro, please: wrap your recording with what you're rolling in with (RV / ShiftPod / yurt / tent), when you can arrive, whether you can help Build or Strike, and any power needs.

FAQ

Can I hop on a call or text with Blake?
Blake is heads-down prepping for build week, so please be respectful of his time — read this page top to bottom first (it answers almost everything) and keep 1-on-1 texting to a minimum. The best way to get his attention: send your voice memo or video application. That IS the conversation.
Where exactly is the camp?
4:45 & Esplanade, Black Rock City — front-row beachfront on the open playa. By night you'll spot us from anywhere: 160-Watt laser, movie-premiere lights, and giant LED signage.
How much are dues, and what do they cover?
$400 per person + $200 power fee (the Aug 1 increase is waived for you — $150 saved). RV rates may vary by vehicle size. Fees fund the semi trailer, massive shade, communal kitchen and shower, generator + fuel, laser, lights, bar alcohol and supplies, sound system, and lounge. Nobody profits — it all goes back into camp.
How do I pay and lock my spot?
Zelle to Vipburningman@gmail.com (Blake Hicks). Your spot is confirmed when dues arrive, and you're added to the camp WhatsApp right after. Want to secure a spot before you're vetted? Send dues with your application — if we turn out not to be a good fit, dues are refunded in full when we let you know. Only a few spots remaining — first paid, first placed.
What can I sleep in?
RVs, ShiftPods, and yurts all work — we design the power grid and placement around what's coming. Bringing a big rig? Flag the size with Blake so we can slot you in.
Is power really included?
Yes. The $200 power fee covers a professionally planned, balanced 3-phase generator grid with runs to RVs, yurts, and tents. Bring your power needs (AC, CPAP, etc.) in your recording so we can plan your load.
What work is expected of me?
Every camper tends one 3-hour bar shift (IDs checked, every shift, no exceptions). Beyond that: pitch in where you can — Build starts Aug 26 (21 early-arrival passes, prioritized for builders), Strike crew stays after, and shift themes are already picked, so just bring your energy — and hosting your own event is loudly encouraged.
What is Frick Frack Blackjack?
Legendary barter gambling. You put in a lighter, they put in a lighter — vintage toy vs. vintage toy — dealer matches the stakes, you play blackjack, winner takes all. The crew is camping with us, activating our frontage at least twice during the week, and bringing a brand-new art car.
Who runs this circus?
Blake Hicks — 16 years on playa, and this is the first official year of his family of a camp. The whole crew has been building all summer: signage, saloon, chromed DJ booth, power grid, red car— sorry, red tarpet. It's going to be an epic foundational year.
What kind of people are you looking for?
Hardworking, community-focused, inspired artist types who value togetherness and shared art. If your plan is to sleep till 4pm and never touch the bar, this isn't your camp. If you want to build a home with a whole family of new best friends — press record.
